<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because you don\u2019t have a strategy for managing your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learning<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and memory. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But don\u2019t worry! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, I will show you <strong>9\u00a0powerful techniques<\/strong> to help you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-remember-what-you-study\/\">remember what you study<\/a><\/span>. They all matter.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t overwhelm yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Pick one or two study tactics at first. The Memory Palace (My Top Recommendation)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just one <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">simple method that helps you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-study-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">study and memorize<\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look no further than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/memory-palace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memory Palace technique<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What is it?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This memory technique was developed in Ancient Greece. It is sometimes referred to as the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/method-of-loci\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Method of Loci<\/a>\u2019 or \u2018Cicero Method.\u2019 You might also hear it called the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/roman-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roman Room<\/a>\u2019 or the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/journey-method\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journey Method<\/a>\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/memory-champions-language-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memory champions<\/a> and experts all agree that it\u2019s the most effective method to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-remember-things\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">remember anything<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at all. In fact, one expert used the technique to memorize the value of Pi till nearly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/alexs-adventures-in-numberland\/2015\/mar\/13\/pi-day-2015-memory-memorisation-world-record-japanese-akira-haraguchi\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">112,000 digits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>My own student, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/marno-hermann-memorize-pi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marno Hermann memorized Pi to 1200 digits<\/a> using a Memory Palace. He recites them all for you in <em>just over 10 minutes<\/em> and in two different languages (!) on the MMM Podcast.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although there are many variations, here\u2019s the core of how it works:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose a familiar location<\/li>\n<li>Place your information along a mental journey through the location<\/li>\n<li>Exaggerate the information by associating it with weird and wonderful mental imagery<\/li>\n<li>Take a mental walk to review each piece of information along the journey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Memory Palace technique, you associate each piece of information you want to memorize with parts of a location that you are very familiar with \u2013 such as your house or your school campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2. Acronyms to Improve Memory for Studying<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acronyms are the most commonly used memory technique and are great for remembering short lists or sequences. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have probably learned \u2018PEMDAS\u2019 in school \u2013 a sequence for solving equations. It stands for Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another common acronym to help you remember a geographical list of names is HOMES, which is used to remember the Great Lakes &#8211; Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a simple tip to create your own acronyms for remembering what you study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/english\/acronym\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambridge dictionary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, acronyms are constructed with the first letter of each constituent word and they actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sound<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like words. That\u2019s what makes them easy to remember. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also use acronyms in the Magnetic Memory Method training, such us: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><strong>D.O.C. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doing is the Origin of Consistency<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doing is the Origin of Creativity<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doing is the Origin of Courage<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doing is the Origin of Clarity<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doing is the Origin of Control<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To get into the \u201cdoing\u201d of memory techniques that ultimately leads to control over your memory, all you have to do is <strong>S.I.P.<\/strong>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Study memory techniques<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implement memory techniques<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practice memory techniques with information that improves your life<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then we have KAVE COGS to help us remember all the Magnetic Modes:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>K<\/strong>inesthetic<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>A<\/strong>uditory<\/li>\n<li><b>V<\/b>isual<\/li>\n<li><b>E<\/b>motional<\/li>\n<li><strong>C<\/strong>onceptual<\/li>\n<li><b>O<\/b>lfactory<\/li>\n<li><b>G<\/b>ustatory<\/li>\n<li>Spatial<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, you might be wondering&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do you do with these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/memorization-technique\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memorization techniques<\/a> if the first letters don\u2019t form a \u2018word,\u2019 because of a lack of vowels in the middle or any other reason?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forget the definition and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LOKi8pe7C8M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">get creative<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try changing the word sequence or using the second or the last letter instead of the first. If there is no vowel, pick up a second letter from a word. A common example is AWOL (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bsent <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">W<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ith<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ut <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eave.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you like acronyms, try combining them with the Memory Palace technique &#8211; and consider these different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/memory-palace-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">navigation techniques<\/a> too. Since each acronym is a word, it\u2019s easy to associate them with a specific object or location in your house. You can also use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/pegword-method\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pegword method<\/a>. Spaced Repetition for Memory Improvement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a well-known fact about memory \u2013 the more you reinforce something, the easier it becomes for your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brain<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/memory-recall-retrieval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-improve-memory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">improve memory<\/a> for studying, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you reinforce something is far more important than <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how often<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you reinforce it. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1876761\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sisti, Glass and Shors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called this phenomenon the \u2018spacing effect.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/spaced-repetition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> spaced repetition method<\/a>, you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/deliberate-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">practice<\/a> remembering at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">right time<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The simplest way to apply this memory method is to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose a method<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apply active recall principles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adjust the difficulty as you go<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Repeat with other topics, including information you read just for fun.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although you can find many software programs on the market, I suggest you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-memorize-flashcards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">use flashcards<\/a> when you <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While going through your flashcards, experiment with dividing them into <strong>three bundles<\/strong>. If you remember something clearly, those cards go into the \u2018Easy\u2019 pile. You don\u2019t have to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> those flashcards again for a week or two. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you only moderately remember something, keep it in the \u2018Medium\u2019 pile and revisit it after a few hours or a day. And if you cannot remember something at all, place it in \u2018Hard\u2019 and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0it again within the next 10 minutes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an incredibly simple way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-study-effectively\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study effectively<\/a>, and yet proven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8759977\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many scientific studies like this one<\/a>. If you want to remember the number 2254, you could visualize a nun punching Jim Carrey for lying! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make the image as animated and ridiculous as possible, and it will stick in your mind!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can, create a fixed image for every number from 0 to 99. Lifestyle Changes to Improve Cognitive Function<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your lifestyle \u2013 your food, sleep and activity levels have a significant impact on your memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sleep<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most students try to gain more time to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by skipping out on adequate sleep. This stimulates the growth of neurons (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brain cells<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and forms additional connections in the hippocampus \u2013 an area of the brain vital to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">learning<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">long-term memory<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>7. Recall Before Writing<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers encourage us to write things down to remember things better. Adding a couple of steps to this process can make a vast difference to your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ability<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to learn and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-memorize-things-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">memorize things quickly<\/a> &#8211; especially before an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exam<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, recall and mentally repeat what you have to write down rather than just copy it mechanically. You can even use movies and TV series as I discuss in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/how-to-increase-memory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how to improve memory<\/a> using these tools<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This process isn\u2019t difficult to do because the information will stay in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magneticmemorymethod.com\/improve-short-term-memory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">short-term memory<\/a> for around 10-20 seconds if you have paid attention. Study With Your Peers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Far too many people make studying an isolated activity.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s good for some people.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;ve found so much growth and better memory from discussing what I&#8217;m studying with lots of other people.<\/p>\n<p>When I was an undergrad, I met almost every week with my fellow students. I even became the president of the English Undergraduate Student Association so I could regularly meet with other learners.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in grad school, there was so much to read. I got into a study group where we took turns presenting books and articles with each other.<\/p>\n<p>We still had to read each text on our own, but hearing quick presentations from one another primed the mind.
