Source code and issue tracker?

[edit]

I was trying to find the source code and issue tracker for flickr2Commons. Where is it? Should this link to it?

-- Harry Wood (talk) 23:52, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Bug 🐛

[edit]

Flickr2Commons uploaded this picture with the description of this picture, the weird part is that I never selected the latter. The first was a duplicate with an already uploaded image on Wikimedia Commons and I specifically deselected the second image to upload this image (which became green but wasn't uploaded). --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) ("The Chinese Coin Troll" 👿) (Articles 📚) 09:50, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

File names

[edit]

I've just had a large batch (too many to rename manually) fail, because "Transfer failed [1] : /⧼titleblacklist-custom-filename⧽". The files have names like (30756156060).jpg, so that's fair.

It would be good if Flickr2Commons had a file renaming feature, like that in the Upload Wizard. This would allow the user to set a name, say, "Foobar museum by John Doe", and would then append sequential numbers (so "Foobar museum by John Doe - 01", ""Foobar museum by John Doe - 02", etc. Alternatively, allow the user to specify a prefix, like "Foobar museum by John Doe", and upload the images as, say, "Foobar museum by John Doe - (30756156060).jpg" Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:47, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

File size anomalies

[edit]

Look at File:Neckera crispa (11747892883).jpg and its source https://www.flickr.com/photos/58896109@N02/11747892883/ . The largest image I can find on the Flickr page is 2048 × 1622, 1783 KiB, whereas on Commons we have 3304 × 2616, 9598 KiB. Where is the latter from: resampling? Served with a URL hidden from me? And why data size differ more than 5× with less than 3× difference in number of pixels? Sizes in pixels similarly differ for File:Most probably Liris niger (31773344033).jpg: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/256/31773344033_1b3dce9823_h.jpg (which I presume to be the source) is 1600 × 1027, 363 KiB, whereas this revision uploaded to Commons is 1808 × 1160, 419 KiB.

May @Magnus Manske or anybody else explain what is this? Is it a problem with my browser not getting—from Flickr—a link to each of highest-res images? May Flickr alter files since the transfer event? A mistake by human operator? Or, perhaps, a bug in Flickr2Commons? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:32, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Incnis Mrsi, the max sizes 3304px resp. 1808px are downloadable from flickr as I just tested. --Achim (talk) 14:33, 26 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Which are URLs and are they static? Why can my browser (Pale Moon 27.0.2 on Unity desktop (Ubuntu), 1366 × 768 ) ignore the highest resolution? Or may I miss some special button? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:14, 26 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request to add Language parameter to descriptions

[edit]

I find Flickr2Commons incredibly helpful, but one small issue is that when automatic descriptions are transferred, they lack a language template (e.g. {{En}} or {{Fr}}). Similar to the option in Upload Wizard, I would like to request a language menu be added to enable selecting a language. Perhaps the default could be no language (as is the current situation_, or the preferred language of the User. Thanks, -Animalparty (talk) 23:23, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

The default would be, obviously, the language preferred by the Flickr account. In any case, what hinders to add enveloping {{en|…}}, {{ja|…}}, or similar by hand? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 10:51, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
It is a huge hindrance when transferring large amounts of images, such as a Flickr album. What's faster, copying and pasting 200 file descriptions, or clicking one button? Animalparty (talk) 17:57, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Animalparty: you can develop a user script which adds the enveloping language template in one click. This solution can work in any Web application and doesn’t require any change to the latter. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:19, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Incnis Mrsi: I know nothing about script developing or web programming, which is why I requested a change. I believe a single change here be more efficient than a daisy chain of tools and scripts. A script to automatically add language templates to existing unspecified file descriptions already on Commons would certainly be helpful, but if language could be specified before importing, all the better. Animalparty (talk) 22:29, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
+1, perhaps it's possible to add in the head of form to add only the language, so to the descriptiosn will be added automatically the corresponing template. -K@rl (talk) 12:04, 15 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

new update issues

[edit]

@Magnus Manske: (or anyone else). It looks like this tool was refurbished about a week ago. I've noticed some issues. First, embedded URLs in Flickr descriptions appear to get disrupted when imported (compare File:Exploring (9369722804).jpg to its counterpart). Secondly, the upload comment ("Transferred from Flickr via #flickr2commons") no longer includes the link (previously "Transferred from Flickr via Flickr2Commons"). Lastly, the File name field seems a lot smaller than before, making it more difficult to edit or view file names. Thanks! Oh and one additional issue: The square format of the thumbnails makes it somewhat more difficult to evaluate photos, e.g. if I only need to import a subset of photographs from an album, having pats of the image cut off makes it more difficult to identify the intended iamges. -Animalparty (talk) 21:15, 14 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Flickr-User is not the photographer

[edit]

With Flickr often a group of user use only one account. The photographer is named in the description of file. My question: How is it possible to set instead of the Flickr-User name or additional the name of photographer, which is necessary with CC licences. Because my english is not so high, so I will repeat it in german too.

Perhaps an idea for the future, to make the possibility of {{cc-by-2.0|attribution=BMF/citronenrot}} K@rl (talk) 06:19, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please Help Me

[edit]

I am trying to upload this photo, but the tool is very unintutive and refuses to do if, for unknown reasons.

I Have spent the better part of 40 minutes trying to upload this photo per the instructions here, to no avail. The instructions say "copying the last string of numbers in the URL when you are on a webpage for a photo." which is "16049400225". I do that, and click the run button, and get a box requesting more input, man. After repeating three more times, I add the usernumber "30478819@N08", and press run. If then proceeds to run a little process telling me that "12907 files found so far (100% done)" which I already found by going to Marco's page on flickr. I am aware the maintainer does not read this

No way to rerun the process or check if I have fixed whatever the process is

Files already on Commons

[edit]

Hello! Is there a way of searching for images that have already been uploaded to Commons? I have tried to upload this but is (very briefly) says it is already uploaded. I have tried to search commons with the name of the file as given on Flickr (Chamber February 2018) and the description (Black Rod, Sarah Clarke, on her first day in the chamber), and variations on the URL including just the number (40393347742). I would greatly appreciate any pointers or even someone finding the file for me, otherwise this image is lost in ether. Gaia Octavia Agrippa (talk) 10:48, 28 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Renek78 and Karl Gruber: the URL for authorizing this tool has been changed.

For every interface language this URL has been changed for the key "auth_warning" using the Translation Tool, e.g. for german (change the language code for your language)

For the polish language this already has been done, now I changed it also for the german language. If it not yet working for your interface language you just access the URL

Flickr2Commons isn't the duplicate machine if it used correctly. I don't advise to upload albums from Flickr if an user doesn't know how many files from the album are already here. Use it for entire user's photoset or for uploading files by tags or if you want to upload a single image. Following these simple tricks it will allow to avoid uploading dupes by almost 100%. Just adding to the above: I'm having the same problem: mass "The file you submitted was empty" messages (and a couple of "Invalid CSRF token") when trying to transfer this album. Any help/advice appreciated. R Prazeres (talk) 05:37, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

F2C not uploading Flinfo internal error.

[edit]

"Flinfo internal error." appears on every that attempted to upload and also each file turns into the color red. I have been able to upload using F2C for about 2 days with this same error message on Flickr accounts of several diffent United States government agencies. -- Ooligan (talk) 09:28, 20 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Empty files

[edit]

In the last time I get in a list of photographs sometimes the messages of empty files and a transfer is not possible. What could it be? Perhaps I hear a solution from other user. thanks in advance -- K@rl (talk) Diskussion 10:25, 26 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Also experiencing this issue, the site will not transfer any photos for me as of today PascalHD (talk) 16:36, 2 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am also experiencing this issue, "The file you submitted was empty." I did a test and was able to get a small number of a larger album uploaded, but most have this issue - Caddyshack01 (talk) 11:03, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think this is a bigger problem, see Special:Diff/1018751357.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:21, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's meaning of Flickr or of Flickr2Commons? ---- K@rl (talk) Diskussion 08:42, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Karl Gruber: Sadly, I don't know yet. RoyZuo speculated "toolforge server blocked by flickr?" in Special:Diff/1019043206.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:56, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I understand, thx - --- K@rl (talk) Diskussion 09:06, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Karl Gruber I tried Commons:Flickypedia and Special:UploadWizard recently. both seem to work well.
what flickr url were you trying to import? RoyZuo (talk) 10:42, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've had the same issue a few times over the past few months. The first time I submitted this album, I was able to get maybe 50 of the 166 photos. The rest were "empty" errors. I ran it again and got maybe another 20 more but the rest were still "empty." I've run it several more times since then and, each time, 0–2 more files are able to be uploaded while the rest still get the "empty" error. Denniscabrams (talk) 18:41, 6 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

CC 4.0 files not being able to be transferred to Commons

[edit]

Flickr now supports CC 4.0 licenses [3]

I'm trying to submit this album but flickr2commons is not showing any eligible files https://www.flickr.com/photos/201299743@N07/albums/72177720326984813/

Please fix that. Thank you. Augustresende (talk) 18:17, 20 June 2025 (UTC) +1 otherwise, the SW is dead, because flickr only uses the new license -- K@rl (talk) Diskussion 07:42, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

+1 on this as well as I got the same behavior regarding flickr2commons showing 0 eligible for CC 4.0 licensed photos. YuhakGuardian (talk) 11:31, 13 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

That might explain why so many seem to miss it; it's {{Magnus is not here}}; and says "The maintainer doesn’t read this page. Magnus Manske prefers it if you take tool issues to his Bitbucket". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:43, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Has anything come of this? Οἶδα (talk) 06:16, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is a ticket for this issue from 2 weeks ago that was opened on the project's Bitbucket page, but it does not appear any progress has been made. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 17:08, 26 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the update. I had tried looking there but, without an account, I guess I missed it. I hope something comes of it. The tool is antiquated without it. Οἶδα (talk) 04:45, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Y2kcrazyjoker4: There are no details on that issue visible to me other than "This issue is submitted and being reviewed."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:21, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just a quick update in case anyone is interested. I've tested a URL for photos containing the CC 4.0 license and it seems like the photos have finally been recognized and shown on the website.
The issue seems to be resolved at least for me but do check on your end as well. YuhakGuardian (talk) 11:27, 29 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have tested an album of CC 4.0 photos and all have successfully transferred. Thank you Magnus Manske and everyone who brought the issue to attention. Οἶδα (talk) 03:44, 30 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Completely nonfunctional

[edit]

I cannot transfer any files whatsoever. In general, for the past year, the tool has been decidedly unreliable. Though, given recent changes, I am inclined to believe Flickr is completely at fault here. Οἶδα (talk) 06:51, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not for me. I get no results whenever I try to enter an album / photoset ID. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 03:57, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Karl Gruber, Y2kcrazyjoker4, and Talkpagelinktext: Is it still not working at all? I tried unsuccessfully to upload photos from this Flickr profile. Jarble (talk) 18:23, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Not working for me with a specific album I am trying to upload (perhaps the 'CC BY 4.0' licensing is the problem, per the above topic). I tried another album that was licensed under 'CC BY-SA 2.0' and it worked. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 19:14, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
